Summer make-up and skin care

Summer is almost here and after the long winter that has just ended most people can hardly wait for the warmth.  Finally you can lie on the beach and get that natural tan you have been dying for all winter.  With all the excitement and fun that is expected in the summer it is essential that you take good care of your skin.  Nothing is more beautiful than clear, clean skin.  You want to look healthy and vibrant in your swim suit or shorts this summer and below are some tips that will have you looking your best.

  • Be sure to drink lots of water this summer to keep your skin hydrated.  A healthy diet that includes foods that are rich in antioxidants is also a must have.  Eat such foods as melons, blueberries, leafy vegetables and cantaloupe.  In addition, eat food rich in protein as protein is great at nourishing and repairing skin that has been damaged.
  • Do not forget your sun screen as you go out to enjoy the day.  Ensure that the sunscreen you choose is at least SPF 15 to adequately protect your skin from damage by sun rays.  If you tend to have dry skin then you need to be more careful or risk wrinkling and accentuating fine lines. A moisturizer is also a plus especially one that is rich in vitamin C.  Vitamin C is a great antioxidant and thus protects your skin from sun damage.
  • When it comes to make up in the summer, simple is best.  Go back to the basics which include lip gloss, mascara, blush and concealer.  The foundation you use needs to be water based in the summer and should be mixed with moisturizer to keep it from drying out.
  • Be sure to use a little concealer under the eyes and use eye makeup in beautiful shades of brown, pink, matte red and peach.  These colors are usually subtle giving you a beautiful, natural look in the sun.  Keep the mascara light and the eye liner should be thin as well.
  • Lipstick needs to be kept nude or better still, use a light lip-gloss.  The idea is too look elegant and fresh at the same time.  You want to accentuate your natural beauty while still looking unique.
  • With all the bare legs you will be showing, not to mention bikini lines you need to focus on hair removal as well.  A razor, if used, should be switched out on a weekly basis.  However, the braver soul can try waxing which will keep the hair at bay for longer.
  • Last but not least, remember to exfoliate this summer.  Exposing yourself to the elements means that you have quite a bit of damage being done to your skin.  To keep it looking vibrant at all times, invest in exfoliating body wash and a loufah to slough off old, dead skin.

The skin is the largest organ of the body.  Take good care of it and you are bound to look and feel great for many years to come!
