Are you on a “diet?” Do you try and eat right, for the most part? Exercise everyday or several times a week?  Do you drink lots of water?  Have you tried every diet on the planet and weight loss eludes you?  Maybe lost a few pounds only to gain it all back and then some? You are not alone!  The fact is you could be consuming way too many of the most highly reactive foods on the planet.

They are:  WHEAT, DAIRY, SUGAR, CORN, PEANUTS and EGGS!

They do the following:

–         Compromise your immune system which can lead to allergies and other illnesses.

–         Alter your metabolic rate so much so that it makes it impossible to lose weight no matter how much you exercise.

–         Depress your energy levels making it difficult to have enough energy to get through the day much less workout or exercise.

–         Increase the hormones that actually cause you to store fat.

Let’s say you start your day with a piece of whole-wheat toast.  Here is what happens in the body:

  1. Serotonin levels drop, adrenaline drops and blood sugar levels drop
  2. Mood swings can occur within hours of eating that toast and the onset of depression and cravings for more of the same food can occur
  3. Your immune system reacts as your hormone levels react leading to tissue swelling as your body sends water to surround the reactive food particles.
  4. They get lodged in our cells, in our tissues giving us a feeling of heaviness or fatigue along with storing the excess calories as fat.
  5. MORE FATIGUE, MORE MOOD SWINGS, MORE WEIGHT GAIN
  6. Then we have the swelling of the intestinal membranes which allow allergens to assimilate preventing nutrients from our food from being absorbed.  This is why we may still feel hungry or empty after a meal because our bodies are not getting the nutrients it needs which lead to nutrient deficiencies and a weakened immune system.

The CYCLE BEGINS ALL OVER AGAIN ………………………..

–         More swelling, more bloating

–         Incomplete digestion and a loss of enzymes as we get older.  We are all born with a certain amount of enzymes, however, they dissipate as we age leading to a difficulty in digesting our food.  In other words, a food or meal that never bothered us before – it bothers us now!

–         Our bodies go into attack mode as if the reactive food were a virus or a parasite which leads to IMMUNE SYSTEM OVERLOAD – the side effects being FATIGUE, HEARTBURN, ACHY JOINTS, PAIN IN THE MUSCLES, INSOMNIA, ALLERGIES…… THE LIST GOES ON AND ON!

OTHER FACTORS THAT AFFECT THIS PROCESS ARE:

  1. We eat too narrow a range of foods
  2. Fake foods
  3. Artificial sweeteners – too many
  4. Enzyme deficiency
  5. Lack of fiber
  6. LEAKY GUT SYNDROME – this is where undigested food particles leak through the intestinal wall and end up in our blood stream causing all sorts of health problems
  7. Not chewing completely
  8. Drinking liquids with your meals – dilutes the stomach acid making it difficult for your stomach to do its job – help digest your food!

Eliminating these highly reactive foods can be done one step at a time.  It will take as little as two weeks to feel the positive effects.  For example, if you eat toast every morning for breakfast, replace it with a Protein Smoothie in the blender made with berries, almond or soy milk, ground flaxseed and some Greek yogurt.  If pasta is your downfall, choose pasta made from rice instead of wheat.  Be aware of the amount of highly reactive foods in your diet and find whole foods to replace them.  You will begin to notice positive, small changes in your weight loss efforts.
